Introduction
The mitral valve functions as a one-way valve between the left atrium and left ventricle of the heart. The mitral valve replaced my either biological or mitral prosthetic value.
Cause Of Mitral Value Replacement
Mitral value problem are really caused by a birth defect, other wish known as a congenital condition.
1. Degenerative disease
2. Rheumatic heart disease
Damage to the mitral valve interfere with the normal passage of blood through the heart, and respiratory symptoms.
Symptoms Of Mitral Valve Disease
Two common types of valve disease are
1. Stenosis (narrowing the opening)
2. Regurgitation (back flow of blood)
To compensate for these disorders, your heart pumps harder, which can result in inadequate blood circulation to the rest of your body.
In addition this excess work can weaken the heart, causing it to enlarge and produce the following symptoms.
* Increased shortness of breath
* Cheat Pain
* Swelling of the ankles and leg
* Dizziness
* Fainting
Diagnostic Test:
1. Chest X-ray
2. ECG
3. ECHO
4. Cardiac checterization
Valve Replacement Surgery:
Your cardiac surgeon will perform the surgery. Once heart valve surgery has been recommended and schedule by your cardiac surgeon, you will be admitted the day of or day before your surgery.
An operation to repair or replacement a mitral valve takes 2-3 hours to perform. The damaged valve replaced by the either plastic or metal valves.
Post Operative Care:
Following the operative patient is transported to the cardiac post-anesthesia care unit, a specialized unit caring exclusively for open-heart surgery patient. The patient are transferred after recovery of anesthesia into the recovery room. Patient undergoing this operation are usually hospitalized for 5-7 days following the surgery.
